olivia wilde salman rushdie One of the many perks of authoring The Satanic Verses and The Moor’s Last Sigh is the requisite personal friendship with Olivia Wilde, best known for her work in Tron: Legacy 3D and The O.C., on which she played a lesbian during a brief but memorable story arc in late 2005. The author and the actress discussed foreign policy at Da Silvano last week, because “he’s one of her parents’ best friends,” a rep said.

Recently single “Tron: Legacy” beauty Olivia Wilde was spotted dining with Salman Rushdie at a table for two at Da Silvano the other night. But while some onlookers thought it was a date, don’t let your imagination run wild. “He’s one of her parents’ best friends,” said a rep for Wilde, whose love life has been speculated about wildly since she filed for divorce in February from Tao Ruspoli. And man-about-town Rushdie has been linked to a laundry list of long-legged lovelies.

Olivia Wilde has said that she would love to play Lara Croft in the planned reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise.

In an interview with MTV, the actress also revealed that she hasn’t been approached to star as the character made famous on film by Angelina Jolie.

“That would be so awesome,” she said. “I love Lara Croft.

“As far as I know right now, I’m not playing [her]. But that’s really cool that people think I should.”

The Tron: Legacy star will next be seen in cinemas as Ella in Cowboys & Aliens, which also features Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. In addition, she recently polled fifth in FHM UK’s 2011 ‘Sexiest Woman in the World’.

Wilde can currently be seen as Dr. Remy Hadley (aka Thirteen) in the Fox medical drama House, which was renewed for an eighth season yesterday.

The doctors are in… some of them at least.

After lengthy talks, Fox has closed a deal with producer Universal to bring House back for an eighth and likely final season.

“Over the past seven seasons, House has redefined the medical drama and has given us one of television’s most compelling and iconic characters,” said Fox president Kevin Reilly in a statement. “From the producers to the incredible writers to the unbelievably talented cast and crew, the House team is fearless in its creativity and I can’t wait to see what they have in store next year.”

Curiously, Fox’s press release doesn’t mention which castmembers will be returning for season 8. As Deadline first reported Monday night, Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps have inked new deals, but it’s unclear where things stand with Lisa Edelstein and Jesse Spencer. Hugh Laurie, Olivia Wilde and Peter Jacobson were already under contract for an eighth season.

House co-stars Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps have closed deals to return for the series’ upcoming eighth (and likely final) season, which is thisclose to being a reality as a renewal agreement between Fox and House producer Universal Media Studios is being finalized tonight.

Leonard (who recently told TVLine that he was on the fence about doing another season), Epps and Lisa Edelstein are the three original cast members whose current deals expire at the end of this season. Edelstein’s deal is still not done, with the process delayed by the fact that she has been overseas. However, she is expected to close. Star Hugh Laurie has one more year on his contract, and newer cast members such as Olivia Wilde also have more time.

Negotiations with the show’s owner, Universal Media Studios, are ongoing, and the two remain in an exclusivity window. Both Fox and UMS are trying to come to an agreement on who will pay what percentage of the pricetag for season eight.

Fox is looking for a signficiant reduction in license fees — some sources say up to 20% — despite the show’s ever-growing costs. Another sticking point is that Fox would like a one-year deal for the show while UMS would prefer a two-year pact.

To complicate matters, “House” cast members Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps and Lisa Edelstein are not under contract for an eighth season. UMS will exercise options for star Hugh Laurie and Olivia Wilde if the show goes forward.

Both sides refuse to comment on the negotiations but are optimistic a deal can get done by Monday, when Fox will announce its fall lineup to advertisers. If talks fall apart, UMS will be able to shop the drama to other networks.

Meanwhile, “House” creator-exec producer David Shore is expected to begin fielding offers soon on a new studio deal. His most recent pact with UMS, where he has been for the past eight years, is about to expire.

Actress Olivia Wilde is planning to turn director after signing on to make a movie about a Haitian children’s baseball team.

The Tron: Legacy star was among the first celebrity aid volunteers to travel to the Caribbean nation in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake, which left Haiti devastated, and she admits the journey was an “amazing” experience.

Now, she’s heading back to make a film about a group of young survivors.

She tells America’s Glamour magazine, “I’m going to Haiti to work on a documentary about a Little League team.”

The actress is hoping to turn the trip into an extended vacation, although she’s hesistant to leave so soon after purchasing her first home following her marriage split.

She says, “I’m thinking about travelling, but I should stay in one place. I just bought a house (in Los Angeles).”

Wilde filed for divorce from Italian prince Tao Ruspoli earlier this year (11) after eight years of marriage.

The new “Tomb Raider” movie is moving an inch closer to realization. “Iron Man” writing duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are hired to write the script of the untitled Tomb Raider reboot project. “Mark and Hawk’s clear sensibilities of action and emotion are perfect for the direction we are taking this franchise,” producer Graham King announced.

GK Films, which is owned by King, acquired the rights to the video game adaptation for a new franchise. “We aim to write an origin story for Lara Croft that solidifies her place alongside Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor in the pantheon of great female action heroes,” Fergus and Ostby stated.

King and his producing partner Tim Headington are aiming for 2013 release for the first film.

Angelina Jolie famously played the character in the 2001 and 2003 movies, and there was a rumor that Olivia Wilde would take over. However, in a recent interview with MTV, Wilde said, “As far as I know right now, I’m not playing Lara Croft. No,” and added later, “That’s really cool that people think I should play her. That’s nice of them.”

Wilde stars in Fergus and Ostby’s latest film “Cowboys and Aliens” which opens in U.S. theaters July 29.

Oliva Wilde isn’t exactly mourning the end of her marriage to Italian prince Tao Ruspoli.

In the June issue of Glamour, the 27-year-old Cowboys & Aliens star says that although their eight-year union is over, she has nothing but fond memories of their time together.

“The mark of a good marriage is partnership and continuing to feel inspired by your spouse. I had that with Tao,” Wilde explains. “But the end is not necessarily the tragedy. Staying in a relationship that is no longer working is the tragedy. Living unhappily — that’s the tragedy.”

The actress — who’s been spotted out with Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake in recent months — admits she’s ready to give love another chance.

“I’m opening up my heart to the idea of dating. It’s funny — my friends would always come to me for romantic advice, but I know nothing, and things have changed since I was dating in high school,” she laughs. “I’m really trying hard to spend this time working on myself.”
