Being a Revlon Global Ambassador has lots of perks, and we’re not just talking makeup. Olivia Wilde and Emma Stone will co-host the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women in New York on May 5, while Halle Berry will lead the Los Angeles event on May 12. We had the chance to chat with Olivia about this exciting annual fundraiser, which has distributed more than $65 million to women’s cancer research, counseling and outreach programs. Have you ever done the EIF Revlon Run/Walk before?
I have, yes, when I first moved to Los Angeles, so in about 2003. … I saw a flier on a desk at a store, I picked it up, and I signed up, raised some money through sponsorships, and I went and ran downtown. It was extraordinary. I’ll never forget it. … It was incredibly moving, and I found it to be pretty life-changing. … So to be a hostess of the EIF Revlon Run/Walk this year is just a tremendous honor.

Are you a runner or a walker?
Oh, I’m a walker! I run when chased. I think I’ll attempt to run at least part of [the Run/Walk] this year because the goal is overcoming obstacles, and I can certainly push myself to run nearly 5 kilometers. But even if you don’t want to do that, it’s still worth coming. I certainly just enjoy walking, and you get the chance to really meet people and talk to them when you’re walking.

Last year, your fellow Revlon ambassador Halle Berry wore a bright pink wig for the walk. Can we expect similar wackiness from you?
That’s a great idea! Emma [Stone] and I can come up with something interesting together. It’s kind of like a big party. [Whether] you did it yourself, you bring a bunch of friends, or if you make friends there, the whole thing is celebrating women and celebrating this movement to end their pain. I do think that making it fun is something that doesn’t take away from the sincerity of the event. It’s an opportunity to get together with people and celebrate this movement. [So] I will think of something fun. A wig is a good idea. Maybe I should just wear every Revlon color of eyeliner at once and do a little body makeup.

Speaking of makeup, the cat-eye look has become your signature thing. What’s your advice for doing it?
Use tools that you feel comfortable with, and be fearless with them. You can always remove makeup. Just feel free to play with eyeliner, and just take off what doesn’t work. One of the reasons I love Revlon products [is] because they are so easy to use. I’m a big fan of the creme gel liners. Liquid liners [are] something I’ve always feared. I attempted once at a young age and never went back, because it’s really difficult to use. You need such a steady hand, and I don’t know how you’re supposed to do it with one eye. The gel liners really make it easy, and you can really achieve that cat-eye look, and they have different liners to help a smoky look. The idea is to have fun with the whole process. It shouldn’t feel torturous.

Does knowing that the paparazzi are out there trying to take pictures of you affect how much makeup you put on when you go out in the morning?

Initially it did, when paparazzi was a new thing in my life — a strange, weird, terrifying new thing. I definitely became a little more conscious of what I was wearing out of the house. Then I got to a point where I just refused to let them dictate how I live my life. They’re going to follow me every minute of every day, no matter how boring my day is, and sometimes you leave the house with very little [makeup] on, and that’s OK. I don’t want to feel that I have to put on a full face of makeup to face the world. I look the way I look; I’m not trying to hide my true self. Sometimes I walk out with just basic makeup — concealer, a little mascara — and that’s OK, because [that's what] most women wear outside the house. People look at the pictures and think, “Oh wow, she’s human.” Well, that’s just me.

Last question: Why should people participate in the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women? What makes it different than other fundraisers?

It’s unusual that people get to participate in philanthropy or in any activism. It is really significant when people actually come together and put a face to the cause. The beautiful thing about this Run/Walk is it is made up of people who themselves are survivors and friends and family of survivors, and even people suffering from cancer right now. It’s overwhelmingly beautiful to be running or walking amongst all those people and to be one of those people yourself.

Nine years ago, actress Olivia Wilde ran, or rather walked, in the EIF Revlon Run/Walk. This year she will host it for the first time when it takes to the streets of New York on May 5. Wilde joins fellow first-time ambassador Emma Stone for the event that supports women’s cancer research.

“Emma and I will kick off the event and welcome everybody, then we’ll participate,” Wilde said of her duties, which includes pounding the pavement with thousands of participants.

Wilde says she may run alongside Stone, but only for a short time.

“Maybe Emma will run in the front, and I’ll bring up the rear,” Wilde joked. “I probably will have such shin splints after attempting to run I will be recovering on ice.”

The EIF Revlon Run/Walk is one of the nation’s largest single-day fundraisers. Each year, tens of thousands participate in its New York and Los Angeles event. The company has distributed more than $65 million to date for research projects.

Wilde says she’s proud to participate because cancer has affected several women in her life and she’s eager to help find a cure. She feels the best chance comes from the private sector.

“I’m optimistic that in my lifetime we will find one. Or certainly in the same way that’s happened with HIV in the last 30 years where treatment has gotten to a much better place. But that can only happen if there’s money behind research and that doesn’t just happen magically,” Wilde said.

She added: “It’s incredibly important to view the influence that multinational companies like Revlon have for the greater good.”

The Revlon Run/Walk comes to Los Angeles on May 12, where six-time host Halle Berry takes to the streets to help find a cure.

Previously known as Welcome to People, the familial drama from debut director Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek) is now titled, People Like Us. Written by Kurtzman, Roberto Orci (Star Trek) and relative newcomer Jody Lambert, People Like Us stars Chris Pine (Star Trek) as a man who inherits $150,000 upon his father’s death, but must deliver the money to a sister he has never met. Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games) stars as the sister in question, an alcoholic with a 12-year-old son, who Pine’s character befriends. Olivia Wilde (Cowboys and Aliens) also stars in People as Pine’s girlfriend, Hannah. Pine spoke on the project during a previous interview, as did Mark Duplass (The League) in a more recent interview that you can read here. Michelle Pfeiffer (Batman Returns) also stars as Pine’s widowed mother. The DreamWorks picture, partially set up by Steven Spielberg himself, will open June 29th of this year.

A release date for the film “The Words” has just been announced! It will open September 21st in the US.

Los Angeles based stylist, Karla Welch is only one half of the styling duo “Kemal + Karla” who rank #5 on THR’s Most Powerful Stylists List . Kemal Harris works with the stars of the east coast while Karla Welch handles the west. The Canadian-born pair have created some of the most talked about red carpet moments from the Oscars to the Golden Globes. Some of their clients include: Hailee Steinfeld, Zooey Dechanel, Stacy Keibler, Paula Patton and of course, Olivia Wilde.

THR caught up with Karla and her client Oliva Wilde. The actress reminisced about her first shoot with Welch for an organic beauty shoot in which Wilde was submerged in a wool suit while trying to balance on top of an apple box.

Wilde says that it was the first time she actually enjoyed a shoot because she loved Welch’s style. Since then, she has worked with Welch because of that feeling and the vibe of the clothing made her feel like “a better version” of herself.

When asked about her favorite looks Wilde says two particular dresses come to mind. One of which was a chocolate brown ball Marchesa gown with gold embellishments that she wore for the 2011 Golden Globe Awards.

The other was an almost nude gown, also by Marchesa, that showed off her sexy décolletage that they say received a “collective gasp” at the Emmys in 2009. Welch says, “I think that’s why people always anticipate Olivia on the red carpet because she gives them Hollywood and glamour and people need that.”

Wilde says as a celebrity she just wants to dress in a way that makes people smile. She says, “It’s fun to embrace fashion in that way. And in this business we have the opportunity to wear the most beautiful clothes in the world. Why not take advantage of that?”
